Presentation at Mira Costa College's LIFE Program

4:02 PM PDT, September 16, 2007

I have been invited to speak about Ibn al-Haytham at MiraCosta College's LIFE Program on October 12, 2007. The title of my presentation is "Ibn al-Haytham: Divine Inspiration or Madness?" I will discuss a pair of 900-year-old historical accounts that suggest Ibn al-Haytham–known in the West as Alhazen, Alhacen, or Alhazeni–feigned madness to escape his duties as a government minister. I will voice my doubts about these claims and offer reasons why I think Ibn al-Haytham was a person with a kind of high-functioning autism known as Asperger's Syndrome.

LIFE, a lifelong learning group, is organized for the seniors of North San Diego County and is sponsored by The MiraCosta College Foundation. The talk will be held in the College's Board Room, Administration Building 1000. The MiraCosta campus is located at One Barnard Drive in Oceanside–College Blvd. exit north off the 78 Freeway.
